A dressing room built into the space you already have
A walk-in wardrobe is a room fitted out for clothes: open hanging bays, shelf walls, drawer stacks and lighting, arranged so you can see everything you own at once. No door-diving, no vacuum bags under the bed, no overflow into the spare room - because the spare room is the wardrobe now.
Most of our walk-in work in Liverpool is box-room conversions. The 1930s semis in Childwall, West Derby and Crosby nearly all have that third bedroom that's too small for a double bed and ends up storing ironing. Lined with fitted storage it becomes a proper dressing room, and it works from a room as narrow as 1.8m. Larger spare rooms in Aigburth and Mossley Hill give us space for islands and dressing tables.
Everything is made to measure and fitted by our own joiners, with the lighting and any new sockets wired and certified by our electrician. The room comes back to you decorated and finished.
Why have a walk-in wardrobe built?
A box room that finally earns its keep
Most Liverpool box rooms are too small for a proper bed but perfect for a dressing room. We line the walls with hanging, shelves and drawers and the room goes from dumping ground to the most organised space in the house.
Everything on show, nothing lost
Open-fronted systems mean you see every rail, shelf and shoe at once. No digging through a deep dark wardrobe for the jacket you know is in there somewhere.
Lit like it should be
LED strips over the rails and shelves, wired to come on with the door or a sensor. You can tell navy from black at 7am in December, which in a Liverpool winter matters.
Islands and dressing tables
If the room is wide enough we can build a central island with drawers for jewellery, watches and folded clothes, or a fitted dressing table under the window with a mirror and sockets.
Built to the room, not from modules
Sloped ceilings, chimney breasts, boxed-in soil pipes and radiator positions all get designed around. National-brand systems work in straight lines; box rooms rarely do.

What to look for in a walk-in wardrobe fitter
Insist on a walkway measurement as well as wall measurements. A dressing room lives or dies on circulation space. You need roughly 900mm clear to stand and dress comfortably, and 600mm absolute minimum to pass. A fitter who fills every wall without checking the walkway will hand you a corridor you can't turn round in.
Ask how the lighting is being powered. LED strips need drivers, and drivers need a proper supply - not a plug-in transformer trailing to the landing socket. New wiring should be run at first fix and certified by an electrician. If lighting is described as "stick-on battery strips", that's a sign the job hasn't been thought through.
Check the drawings show your clothes, not generic bays. A good design divides hanging into double and long sections based on what you own, sets shelf pitches for your folded piles, and counts your shoes. If the drawing is the same one every customer gets with the walls stretched, the storage will fight you daily.
Finishes and styles
Light woodgrains and warm whites are the most popular choice for dressing rooms - they bounce the light around and let the clothes provide the colour. Darker smoked-oak and charcoal finishes suit bigger rooms with good lighting, and painted shaker fronts fit the period homes around Aigburth and Sefton Park. Brushed brass rails and felt-lined drawers finish the job properly.

How much does a walk-in wardrobe cost in Liverpool?+
Converting a typical box room into a walk-in wardrobe runs £3,000 - £6,000 including lighting and decoration. Larger dressing rooms - a full spare room with an island or dressing table - land between £6,000 and £12,000, and big rooms with high-end finishes can go past that. You get a fixed written quote after a free measured site visit, and the figure doesn't move.
How big does a room need to be for a walk-in wardrobe?+
Smaller than most people think. From about 1.8m wide you can run storage down one wall with a comfortable walkway. At 2.2m - 2.4m you can fit storage on both sides, and from around 6 square metres an island becomes possible. Most Liverpool box rooms in the 1930s semis are around 2m x 2.5m, which is genuinely enough for a very usable dressing room.
Is a walk-in wardrobe a good use of a box room?+
Usually yes, with one honest caveat. A box room that can't take a double bed adds little as a bedroom anyway, so converting it to a dressing room usually improves how the house lives and shows well when you sell. But if the room is a legal, usable bedroom and you might sell soon, be aware that listing a 3-bed as a 2-bed-plus-dressing-room can narrow your buyer pool. We fit everything without altering the room's fabric, so it can always be reverted to a bedroom in a day.
Can you put lighting and sockets in?+
Yes, and we'd push you to. LED strips over each rail and shelf bay, on a door sensor or switch, cost little extra during the build and make the room. We also add sockets where you'll actually use them - by the mirror for straighteners, in the island for charging. New circuits are fitted by our electrician and certified.
How long does a walk-in wardrobe take to fit?+
A single-wall box-room conversion takes around two days on site. A full dressing room with storage on three walls, lighting and an island takes three to five days. Making the carcasses and fronts comes first, so from survey to finished room is typically four to six weeks.
Open shelving or doors - which is better in a dressing room?+
Open-fronted bays are the point of a walk-in: everything visible, no doors swinging into your walkway. We usually keep doors or drawers just for the things that need them - underwear, jewellery, anything you'd rather not dust. If the room gets strong sunlight we'll suggest glass doors on the hanging bays to stop fading, which is a real issue on south-facing box rooms.
