Fitted wardrobes made for your bedroom, not a showroom

A bespoke fitted wardrobe is built to your wall, floor to ceiling, with the doors and interior drawn around what you actually own. That's the whole point of it. A freestanding wardrobe gives you a rail and a shelf and a foot of dead space above; a fitted one uses the lot, including the parts of the room nothing off a shelf will ever fit.

Liverpool bedrooms are full of those parts. Victorian terraces have chimney breasts with an alcove either side that a standard wardrobe can't touch. The 1930s semis around Childwall and West Derby have bay fronts and short return walls. Loft rooms have ceilings that slope to nothing. We measure all of it and build the wardrobe to it, scribed in tight against the plaster.

Everything is made for the job - 18mm carcasses fixed back to the wall, doors sprayed or painted in the colour you choose, soft-close hinges and runners throughout. The same joiners who make it turn up to fit it.

Why go bespoke rather than buy off the shelf?

Every millimetre of the wall used

A fitted wardrobe runs floor to ceiling and wall to wall, scribed to your skirting, coving and any wonky plaster. No dust gap on top, no dead strip down the side, no wasted foot of wall where a freestanding unit stops short.

Built around the awkward bits

Chimney breasts, alcoves, bay returns, boxed-in pipes and sloped ceilings all get worked into the design. In most Liverpool bedrooms the awkward bits are exactly where the storage should go.

Interiors planned for your clothes

Double hanging for shirts, long hanging for dresses and coats, drawer stacks, shelf bays and shoe racks - laid out after we've actually looked at what you need to store, not picked off a standard menu.

Proper materials, properly fixed

18mm carcasses fixed back to the wall, solid MDF or MFC doors hung on adjustable soft-close hinges, and drawer boxes on full-extension soft-close runners. Not a 3mm hardboard back pinned on with tacks.

Any finish, any colour

Painted shaker, flat spray-lacquered slabs, woodgrain melamine or a mix - doors and end panels finished to match the bedroom rather than whatever the catalogue happens to offer this season.

Made and fitted by local joiners

You deal with the people who build the wardrobe, not a salesperson on commission. One site visit, one drawing, one fixed price, and the same team turns up to fit it.

Wardrobe interior with shelves, drawers and hanging space

What can go inside your wardrobes

  • Double and long hanging rails set at the right heights for your clothes
  • Drawer stacks on soft-close runners, including internal drawers behind doors
  • Adjustable shelf bays for knitwear, bags and folded clothes
  • Pull-out shoe racks and trouser rails
  • LED strip lighting that comes on when the doors open
  • Mirrored door panels, or a full-length mirror fixed inside a door

The interior is where bespoke earns its money. Tell us how many suits, dresses, trainers and jumpers you own and we'll divide the space to match - not hand you two rails and wish you luck.

How we build fitted wardrobes in Liverpool

1

Free site visit

We measure the wall, check the floor levels and ceiling line, note any chimney breast or slope, and talk through what you need to hang, fold and hide.

2

Design & drawing

You get a scaled drawing showing the door layout and the full interior - hanging, drawers, shelves - with a fixed written price. We change it until it's right.

3

Written quote

One figure covering materials, making, fitting and finishing. No deposit-chasing sales tactics and no surprise extras on the invoice.

4

Making

Carcasses and doors are cut and edged, and painted finishes are sprayed before fitting day, so the mess stays out of your bedroom.

5

Fitting

Carcasses go in level and fixed back to the wall, scribed to your skirting and ceiling. Most bedrooms are fitted in one to two days.

6

Doors & interiors

Doors are hung and aligned, rails, drawers and shelves go in, and any lighting is wired and tested.

7

Handover

We walk the finished wardrobe with you, adjust anything that needs it, and leave the room hoovered and clean.

What to look for in a fitted wardrobe maker

Ask what the carcass and back are made of. The difference between fitted furniture and an expensive flat-pack is in the bits you don't see. Look for 18mm carcass material and a solid back fixed to the wall, not a 3mm hardboard sheet pinned on. Cheap backs bow, rails pull loose, and the doors go out of line within a year.

Be wary of the discount dance. Some national fitted-wardrobe brands quote a startling figure, then knock 50% off if you sign tonight. The real price was always the lower one - the rest is pressure. A local maker should give you one written figure after measuring, and it shouldn't change depending on how keen you look.

Check they'll scribe rather than fill. Liverpool walls are rarely straight and ceilings rarely level, especially in older terraces. Doors and end panels should be scribed to follow the wall and ceiling line. If the answer to every gap is a filler strip and a tube of caulk, the finished job will look like it.

Finishes and door styles

Most Liverpool customers choose spray-lacquered doors in soft whites, greys and sage greens, or painted shaker doors for period bedrooms in the Victorian terraces. Woodgrain melamine keeps the cost down and suits rental properties, and mirrored panels work hard in smaller rooms. Handles range from brushed brass knobs to clean handleless push-catch doors.

We bring door and colour samples to the site visit so you can hold them against your walls and carpet in the room's own light.

What do bespoke wardrobes cost?

As a guide: a single alcove wardrobe starts from around £1,200. A full wall of fitted wardrobes in a double bedroom typically lands between £2,500 and £6,000 depending on size, finish and interior. Premium walk-in wardrobe conversions start around £6,000.

The finish and the amount of drawer work move the price more than anything else - which is why every job starts with a free measured site visit and a fixed written quote.

Fitted Wardrobe FAQs

How much do fitted wardrobes cost in Liverpool?+

A single bespoke wardrobe built into one alcove starts around £1,200 - £1,500 depending on the interior. A full wall of fitted wardrobes across a typical double bedroom runs £2,500 - £6,000, with the finish and the amount of drawers making most of the difference. Walk-in conversions of a box room start around £6,000. Every job is priced from a free measured site visit with a fixed written quote.

How are your wardrobes different from Sharps or a flat-pack system?+

National-brand fitted wardrobes are built from standard modules with filler panels covering the leftover space, and the price usually starts high then drops with sales pressure. Ours are made to your actual wall - scribed to the ceiling and skirting, built around chimney breasts and slopes - and the first price you get is the real one. Flat-pack is cheaper still, but it's a freestanding box with a gap round it, not fitted furniture.

Can you build wardrobes around a chimney breast?+

Yes, and in Liverpool it's the most common bedroom layout we work with. Victorian terraces in Wavertree and Aigburth and the 1930s semis out towards Childwall almost all have a chimney breast with an alcove either side. We build a wardrobe into each alcove and can run cupboards across the top of the breast to join them, which gives you a full fitted wall without losing the room's shape.

Can you do wardrobes for lofts and sloped ceilings?+

Yes. Angled wardrobes for loft conversions are a speciality - the carcasses and doors are cut to follow the pitch of the roof, so the space under the slope actually gets used instead of standing empty. There's a dedicated page on our loft and eaves wardrobes with prices and details.

What's the difference between painted, spray-lacquered and melamine finishes?+

Melamine (MFC) is a factory-finished board - the cheapest option, hard-wearing, but limited to the board colours and woodgrains available. Spray-lacquered MDF gives a smooth, even factory-style finish in any colour and is the most popular choice. Hand-painted shaker doors give a softer, more traditional look and can be repainted years later when tastes change. We bring samples of all three to the site visit.

How long does fitting take?+

A single alcove wardrobe is usually fitted in a day. A full wall of wardrobes takes one to two days, and larger runs with lighting or mirrored doors up to three. Making comes first - from survey to fitting day is typically three to five weeks depending on the finish.
